Exhibition: The Wexford Festival Opera - The Early Years In-Person
The Wexford Festival Opera – The Early Years is an exhibition of rare newspaper photographs documenting the early years of this world famous opera event which in 2021 celebrates its seventieth anniversary.
The photographs capture the innocence and the joie de vivre of the very first opera in the Theatre Royal on nearby High Street in 1951, The Rose of Castile.
It is a remarkable record of the leading artistic personalities of the day, including festival founder Dr. Tom Walsh and the first wave of Italian singers, including Nicola Monti.
The exhibition will also feature a published guide. Sponsored by Creative Ireland.
