Human activities are driving climate change. The world has already warmed by 1 degree and is on course for much more warming and associated impacts if these activities are not curtailed. In this talk Prof. Conor Murphy of Maynooth University will provide an overview of our understanding of climate change, showcasing the evidence for change and projections for the future. Attention will be given to asking what climate change means for Ireland and for Wexford in particular. The talk will then ask what we can do to turn the tide, looking at actions needed to both reduce the amount of warming and to adapt to the inevitable impacts of climate change.

Prof. Conor Murphy

Conor, from Kilanerin in North Wexford, is a Professor in the Department of Geography at Maynooth University and the Irish Climate Analysis and Research UnitS (ICARUS). His research interests focus on climate change, floods, droughts, historical climatology and adaptation to climate change. His research engages closely with public policy and communities. He has published more than 70 papers in top ranking international journals including; Science, Nature and Nature Climate Change. Conor currently sits on the National Adaptation Committee, informing Government on how to build resilience to a changing climate and is a member of the Royal Irish Academy Committee on Climate Change and Environment.
