Nithy Kasa was born in Kimpese, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and was raised in its capital, Kinshasa and in Galway. Kasa’s debut collection, Palm Wine Tapper and the Boy at Jericho (Doire Press, 2022), was shortlisted for the 2023 Pigott Poetry Prize and was listed among the top poetry books of 2022 by The Irish Times. She is a contributor to Dedalus Press’s 2019 anthology Writing Home: The ‘New Irish’ Poets, as well as to periodicals including Poetry Ireland, SAH Journal, Flare, and A New Ulster. Her poem “Unwanted Visitors” appeared in Embers of Words (Migrant Writers and Performing Artists Ireland/Choice Publishing, 2012), an anthology collecting poetry by immigrants to Ireland from a range of countries. Kasa participated in the series “Poetic Lives” for Radio Near FM, featuring six migrant poets discussing their creative output as residents of Ireland.

In 2017, she gave talks at the National University of Ireland, Galway, and the Royal Irish Academy as part of the launch of “Language and Migration in Ireland.” Her poetry has also appeared on Poetry Unbound. She was shortlisted for the Eavan Boland Emerging Poet Award 2021.

A member of the Dublin Writers’ Forum since 2014, Kasa has read for Poetry Ireland, RTÉ Radio’s Poetry Programme, Concern, Ranelagh Art Festival, Mother Tongues Festival, and other series and events. Kasa’s work can be found in the archives of University College Dublin and the University of Ireland Galway. An administrative worker, entrepreneur, and teacher, Kasa balances life between Ireland and the DRC.

Wexford Library hosts this is event in collaboration with Wexford Arts Festival.
