Wexford County Archive: 25 objects from the Irish Revolution, 1916-23. Tuesday 5th November at 7.00pm. In-Person
Wexford Town Library will host the launch of an innovative publication on Tuesday, 5 November at 7pm. Cathaoirleach, Cllr. Pip Breen will be performing the book launch. The speakers will include author Aaron Ó Maonaigh and archivist with Wexford County Council, Gráinne Doran. Published by Wexford County Council, the booklet Wexford County Archive: 25 objects from the Irish Revolution, 1916-23 provides a unique insight into the extensive range of documents, objects and visuals held by Wexford County Archive for the revolutionary period.
The book showcases a selection of 25 artefacts, many of which are linked to specific men and women from the county who played an active part during the period, adding a human dimension to the story of the Irish Revolution. Aaron Ó Maonaigh’s meticulous historical interpretation and contextualisation of each of the artefacts further enriches our understanding of this turbulent time.
As a fitting conclusion to the Decade of Centenaries in County Wexford, this legacy project showcases the unique role of archives and objects in informing historical debate and in facilitating a better understanding of this complex period in our county’s history.
This project was supported by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media under the Decade of Centenaries programme 2012-23.
