Wexford Science Cafe: What you didn’t know about household BERs and energy renovations In-Person
Discussion with economist Professor John Curtis
The government has allocated €8 billion to residential energy retrofits, aiming to have 500,000 dwellings at BER B2 standard by 2030. Using data from home smart thermostats, John Curtis will discuss how energy use correlates (or not) with BER ratings and the potential shortfall in meeting policy targets. John will also look at the effects of renovation disruption on people’s decisions to undertake energy efficiency retrofits.
Dr John Curtis, from Co. Wexford, is head of the Economics Division at the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) and was previously the ESRI’s programme coordinator for energy and environment research. His research covers a broad range, including residential energy efficiency, renewable energy, the electricity sector, recreational fisheries and water quality. He has authored more than 100 reports and academic journal articles. Before joining the ESRI in 2011, he held posts at the Environmental Protection Agency (Johnstown Castle) and the Environmental Defense Fund (New York).
