Singing Letts: a presentation by Aileen Lambert and Bairbre O’Hogan

Singing Letts: a presentation by Aileen Lambert and Bairbre O’Hogan In-Person

The county of Wexford was at the heart of the lyrical poetry written by Winifred M. Letts (1882-1972). In this presentation, Aileen Lambert (traditional singer, composer), Nellie Fortune (traditional singer) and Bairbre O'Hogan, (biographer of W. M. Letts), will use poetry, prose and song to introduce you to the life and works of this poet, warpoet, dramatist, novelist and children's writer.

In this presentation, Bairbre O’Hogan will provide insight into the life and works of Winifred at various stages in her life, while Aileen and her daughter Nellie will perform several songs, in the solo, unaccompanied, traditional style.

Letts’s biography, Sing in the Quiet Places of my Heart: The Life and Works of W.M. Letts (1882-1972), by Bairbre O’Hogan, published by South Dublin Libraries, records for the first time ever, the life and writing career of Winifred M. Letts and will be available to purchase at the event.

In 2024, traditional singer and songwriter Aileen Lambert received an Arts Council Award to explore Letts’s poetry and compose new airs in the traditional style to transform them into song.
