What is the gut-brain connection?
The gut and the brain are in constant communication via our central nervous system transmitting messages via our hormones, brain cells, immune cells and microbiome. Hence phrases like 'gut feeling' or 'gut instinct'. Scientists at UCC in Cork have proven this process at the APC Microbiome Ireland Institute. Microbiome are a community of micro-organisms or bacteria living together in the gut/digestive tract. We optimise the microbiome in our gut by the introduction of beneficial bacteria in the form of probiotics (live good bacteria from natural dairy yoghurt, kefir) or prebiotics (fibre that feeds gut bacteria leading to a healthier digestive system - whole grains, fruits and veggies, greens) and also maintaining a low stress lifestyle.
Oliver will be sharing nutrition tips on gut maintenance plus gut friendly food tips and demonstrating 4 delicious easy recipes taking care of breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks with lots of nutrition facts, samples, tasters and ambiance.
