Healthy Ireland at Your Library - Diabetes Awareness Month Talk with Registered Dietitian Therese Hogan In-Person
What is diabetes? Diabetes is a condition that happens when your blood sugar (glucose) is too high. It develops when your pancreas doesn’t make enough insulin or any at all, or when your body isn’t responding to the effects of insulin properly. Diabetes affects people of all ages. Most forms of diabetes are chronic (lifelong), but all forms are manageable with medications and/or lifestyle changes.
Join us in Wexford Library for a informative talk on Diabetes with Therese Hogan, a CORÚ registered dietitian, with over 23 years of experience in clinical practice.
The talk will include
- Pre Diabetes,
- Type 1 Diabetes
- Type 2 Diabetes
- Pancreatitis induced Diabetes (to include Pancreatic Cancer)
- Gestational Diabetes (Diabetes in Pregnancy)
Therese holds a BSc (Hons) from the University of Wales Institute Cardiff (UWIC) and completed her dietetic training in London. She also has a Level 6 Certificate in Food Science and Technology from DIT (Dublin Institute of Technology). Her clinical practice has seen her provide dietetic advice and support from cradle to grave in both the acute and outpatient settings.
Therese has a keen interest in Lifestyle Medicine including: Heart Disease and Stroke, Respiratory Conditions (eg. COPD), Arthritis, Obesity/Overweight and Diabetes.
