Burning the Barracks: The Destruction of Wexford's RIC barracks during the War of Independence with Barry Lacey In-Person
The Destruction of Wexford’s RIC barracks during the War of Independence. Join archaeologist Barry Lacey of Slaneyside Heritage as he explores the motive behind the destruction of these buildings.
During the War of Independence in county Wexford over 20 police barracks were sabotaged or destroyed by the IRA.
Hear the stories of the individuals involved on both sides of the conflict with particular focus on those barracks in the New Ross area including Ballybrazil, Tintern, Rosbercon, Berkely, Ballinaboola, Killanne, Ballywilliam and others.
The ruins of many of these buildings are dotted throughout the countryside, a direct link for many communities to that part of our history.
